In Loving Memory of Linda Naess
Honouring a Legacy of Volunteer Service

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude that we remember Linda Naess, former President of the Society, who passed away oin October 25th. Linda will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her lasting contributions to our gardens and our community will be cherished for years to come.

Linda was a passionate advocate for horticulture, gardening education, and community connection. As an active member of the Project Committee, she played an instrumental role in shaping the Society’s gardens and its future. She led the design of the Four Season Garden, creating an important feature that encourages year-round interest, learning, and accessibility for gardeners of all abilities. Her leadership as President during Phase 2 of the garden expansion helped transform the space into a vibrant, inclusive, and educational community resource.

Linda’s commitment extended well beyond the gardens themselves. She fostered meaningful community partnerships, helping strengthen the Society’s relationships and broaden its impact. As an active Prince George Master Gardener, she generously shared her knowledge and expertise, welcoming and supporting gardeners of all experience levels.

Her dedication was evident in every aspect of her volunteer service. In addition to her other volunteer roles, Linda co-led the Garden Maintenance Committee, helping preserve the beauty and health of the gardens, and played a key role in overseeing the hiring of the Society’s first Head Gardener, an important milestone in building the Society’s long-term capacity and sustainability.

Above all, Linda understood that a garden is about more than plants; it is about people, relationships, and a sense of belonging. She gave generously of her time and energy, consistently showing up for Society events and activities. She welcomed new members, encouraged them to become involved, and mentored volunteers with kindness, patience, and genuine friendship. Through her leadership, she helped create a community where people felt valued, supported, and inspired to contribute.

Linda’s favourite flower was the sweet pea, a flower often associated with friendship, kindness, and gratitude, qualities that reflected the way she lived and volunteered. Her legacy lives on in the gardens she helped create, the knowledge she shared, the volunteers she encouraged, and the friendships she nurtured.

We are deeply grateful for all Linda gave to the Society. Her leadership, compassion, and dedication helped shape not only our gardens but also the community that gathers within them. As we continue to grow and care for the gardens she loved, we will remember Linda with affection, admiration, and gratitude.

May Linda’s memory continue to bloom in the gardens she helped shape and in the hearts of all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers a donation in Linda’s name can be made to the David Douglas Botanical Society.
